In winter, when daylight ends earlier, the last strike of the gong sounds when the sun goes below the horizon. After that, the working time ends. As a rule, everyone has a five-day working week: five days of work and two days off.
Ayia did not have to go anywhere that day, so I did not wake her. I just left half the cake for her, got dressed after breakfast and left the house. It was already quite light, the sky turned grey-blue, and the sun appeared in the gap between the houses. The street was windy and stuffy and there was more dust in the air than usu

Hi Oleks,

I am glad to hear that workers are not exploited and can relax at the weekend :) Having time off to relax is (in my opinion) so important. I know people who work each and every day of the year and they are never happy and always stressed out.

With regards to your English, yet again there is very little to correct! Here are just a couple of points I would like to make..

  • when daylight ends earlier - when there are fewer hours of daylight.
  • the working time In English, we refer to this as "the working day"
  • there was more dust in the air than usu - than usual (guessing this was a typo here)

Hi Ed! Thanks for corrections! I agree with you about the weekend. For example, even two days a week is not enough for me to rest.

I thought this was a very good post.  The only thing I would change was your description of the change in light as the sun rose. I would start a new sentence after 'It was already quite light'  Then I would change the tense as follows, and there are two options -  you could either say:  'The sky was turning grey-blue and the sun was appearing in the gap between the houses' or 'The sky had turned grey-blue and the sun had appeared in the gap between the houses'.  It depends whether you are describing an ongoing process or something that had happened already. Good audio.
