The final was already evident when our foreman told us to go down the ladder to the bottom of the moat. We did that in turn and went on the path between pointed poles and hidden pits with spikes on their bottoms. Our workplace was under a steep wall of the rampart, where buckets were already lowered by the ropes. Next to them were spades stuck in the ground and shovels and pickaxes laid. Everything was ready for work. Along the rampart on the left and the right were several other teams visible that were already working.

Hi Oleks,

Sounds like the workers have a long, hard day of work ahead of them. I must remind myself that they would not have had all the machines that builders have in todays' society haha!

With regards to your English, I would like to add the following points:

  • We did that in turn  - You can also (and in my opinion it sounds more "natural") say "We took it in turns"
  • We did that in turn and went on the path between pointed poles and hidden pits with spikes on their bottoms - We took it in turns and walked along the path between pointed poles and hidden pits with spikes on the ground. (ground is more suitable better word than "bottom" in this context")
  • go down the ladder - You can also say  (and in my opinion it sounds more "natural") "climb down the ladder"

The final outcome ['Final' as a noun means the last game or race in a competition] was already evident when our foreman told us to go down the ladder to the bottom of the moat. We did that in turn climbed down, one by one and went on walked down the path between pointed poles and hidden pits with spikes on their bottoms. Our workplace was under a steep wall of the rampart, where buckets were already had already been lowered by the ropes. Next to them were spades stuck in the ground and shovels and pickaxes laid out. Everything was ready for work. Along the ramparts on the left and the right were several other teams visible that who were already working. [It's more correct to use 'who' here because we are referring to people].
