Hi again. Yes, I think breaking the sentence in two...

Poor Maria

Maria was bored at home, so she decided to go out. She put on a jacket, for it was cold outside. Maria called one of her friends, but she wasn't able to reach him. She could either go shopping, or hang out in a mall. However, she doesn't like shopping, nor did she have money. She went to the library, for she loves to read. Maria wasn't able to find the book that she wanted at the library, yet she could read some other books and became happy.

Everything is correct, but I'd try not to use "for" so often to mean "because".  It's just more common, in the kind of speech you were using, to say "because".

Hello Kalu,

Welcome to Lingora. Great to have you here. When did you start learning English?

I'm very impressed with your English. As Andrew has pointed out, everything is corrrect apart from the fact you used "for" instead of because!

Make sure you keep practicing by adding texts and audios here :-)

Thanks for your encouraging answers. I started learning English decades ago :)  I am an Information Technology Consultant in Turkey. So I have been reading books and watching videos in English related to my job. But I did not need to speak or write in English. Because all of our customers are Turkish. But nowadays I am considering If I can teach my experiences to some people behind Turkey. So I've decided to improve my English writing and speaking skills as well as reading and listening skills. This is my very short story.

By the way, I wrote "Poor Maria" to learn Coordinating Conjunctions, FANBOYS. That's why I use FOR instead of BECAUSE.

Hi!

This is brilliant and I really enjoyed reading it!

If you want to get more creative with your writing, try looking up adjectives to describe the 'jacket' or 'library' and adverbs to describe when she 'went' somewhere. For example 'She quickly went to the library'.

I would also rephrase this as: 'Maria wasn't able to find the book that she wanted at the library, so she read some other books instead and felt happier.'

It was more or less accurate though :)

Thanks,

Becky :)

Excellent English!  For the very last sentence I suggest "....but she was able to read some other books and became happy" or as Becky says "felt happier" is more natural.

I really hope you keep posting.  Ros
