Costa Rica's National Theater

Yesterday I was watching the videos and photos of the dramatic fire in Notre-Dame cathedral. In fact, I was thinking in all the historical and cultural legacy keeped in that church and how easily it could be lost for good. That legacy has an intangible value for the french and the world, it's a shame to lose it all because something that problably could be avoided doing the right thing on the right time. Even though the high cost of the proper preservation works, the value of the historical and cultural legacy will definitely be always higher. Due to that the investement is necessary in order to preserve what Notre-Dame represents for the people of France and the entire world.

By the way, in my country, Costa Rica, our authorities have been discussing for a while about how to keep safe our main historical and cultural building, the National Theater. As the decision makers argued about the cost making a political mess of that, year after year the National Theater is getting worst and the risk of a catastrophic fire that could destroy it completely grows higher.

We must stop the talking and start with the making. After all we can protect our own legacy, however we won't be able to rebuilt it.

Hi Adrian. Good job! Good or bad, historical sites must be kept safe and must be maintained because those are the physical things we have left of our ancestors and the heritage we inherit from them is one of the factors that defines us as "human" as compared to other "beings". Regarding your text, KJ has already mentioned many useful tips, here are some more:

That legacy has an intangible value for the french and the world. -> That legacy has intangible value for the French and the world. (You are talking about value in general.)

It's a shame to lose it all because something that problably could be avoided doing the right thing on the right time. -> It is a shame to lose it all because that is something that could probably be avoided by doing the right thing at the right time.

- Even though the high cost of the proper preservation works -> By works, do you mean it pays off?

investement -> investment (typo)

- ... have been discussing for a while about how to keep safe ... -> Using the preposition "about" for the verb "discuss" is considered a redundant thing to do.

- ... our own legacy, however we won't be ... -> "However" in the middle of a sentence requires two commas, one before and one after it. ... our own legacy, however, we won't be ...

Hi!

Thanks for this.

I also found out about the cathedral a couple of days ago, what a horrible accident, but at least no one was harmed.

- Yesterday, I was looking at photos and watching videos of the dramatic Notre-Dame cathedral fire - (you could add a comma after 'yesterday' to place emphasis on the main point you are making about the cathedral. Since photos are still images, we would normally 'look' at photos. To 'look' at something means to observe something and to 'watch' something means to observe something over a short period of time. We would usually 'watch' something in motion, such as a film, but we would 'look' at something still, like a painting. Tip: However, you could look at slideshow made up of still images, because the slideshow would be moving.

- The legacy of the cathedral is of intangible value to French people - (I'd refer back to your subject to make your point clear by opening with 'The legacy of the cathedral'. I like the fact that you've mentioned that the accident has had an impact on French people and that you've talked about the historical value of the cathedral, as this demonstrates that it is not just about the artificial damage to the cathedral. You do this well again later in the extract when you say 'what Notre-Dame represents for the people of France'. Talking about the impact that the accident has had on the people contextualises the piece, which is important for writing.

Thanks,

Becky.

A very well written piece about the recent tragic fire at Notre Dame.  Very thought provoking!  Here are my "tweaks":

Yesterday I was watching the videos and photos of the dramatic fire in Notre-Dame cathedral. In fact, I was thinking in [of] all the historical and cultural legacy keeped [kept] in that church and how easily it could be lost for good. That legacy has an intangible value for the French and the world, [.] It's a shame to lose it all because [of] something that [could] probably could be [have been] avoided [by] doing the right thing on [at] the right time. Even though the[re is a] high cost of the [for the correct] proper preservation works, the value of the [a] historical and cultural legacy will definitely always [be] higher. Due to that, the investment is necessary in order to preserve what Notre-Dame represents for the people of France and the entire world.

By the way, in my country, Costa Rica, our authorities have been discussing for a while about how to keep safe our main historical and cultural building [safe], the National TheaterTheatre. As the decision makers argued about the cost, [and in the process,] making [create] a political [chaos] mess of that, year after year the [condition of the] National Theatre is getting worst [worse] and the risk of a catastrophic fire that could destroy it completely grows higher.

We must stop the talking and start [acting] with the making. After all, we can protect our own legacy, however [but] we won't be able to rebuilt [rebuild] it.
