Happy Christmas Tatyana. Hope you had a great time.

Thanks so much for helping me to learn Arabic these past few months. Over the Christmas period, I have been travelling a lot and unfortunately have not had much time to dedicate to it. However, in the New Year, I plan to start practicing it regularly again!

Hope you have a wonderful New Year. What are some of your New Year's resolutions out of interest? In 2020, I plan to help / donate more to charities and take better care of my health. (I also aim to become a better Arabic speaker but I'm not sure if that is realistic hahaha)

Hi Tatyana! Congratulations on getting high marks in your mid-term assessments. You must be very pleased with yourself yes

That's amazing you learned how to cook too! What do you enjoy cooking?

Best of luck when you go on stage! It must be so nerve-wracking going on stage for the first time. I wish you the best of luck with it!

Those are all fantastic New Year's resolutions! Is driving dangerous in your country though? In the UK, there are so many accidents each year on the roads that many people (including myself) have decided not to use cars anymore and just rely on the trains and busses instead.

I will of course teach you more advanced vocabulary, phrasal verbs and idioms in English. I will prepare a list for you over the weekend smiley.

Hi Edmund

thanks , about cooking hahah I don't know everything in the kitchen like how to cook everything now my mom teaches me the basic things then we will continue to the next step/ level  you can't imagin how difficult it was at the beginning  it  needs a lot of concentration while doing it ,you need to focus in every step you do .About driving ,yes accidents  happened  all the time some are dangerous and some is not , I really hate accidents because sometimes it's so dangerous and scary  ,does the main reason of  accident in the UK happend because of the weather ? Because I sometimes took Taxi when I come home , but there something I hate while I'm the car that the driver is talking on the phone or texting others this makes me very nervous.  About train ,Wow that's amazing that you use the train I've never saw a train before is it safe , oh that must be dfficult  for you to get through it , but you're ok now nothing dangerous happend to you ?

and thank you so much for that  smileyyes

I have a question what happend with you in Arabic  , do you need any help don't histate to tell me , what lessons do you need ?

Hi Tatyana,

Yes, cooking can be incredibly difficult - especially if you are cooking something you have never cooked before.

In the UK a lot of accidents are caused by the weather (especially when we have icy and freezing conditions). However, most accidents are caused (like what you have pointed out about Taxi drivers) by people becoming distracted by their mobile phones and losing concentration. It makes me so angry that so many people text and look at their phones whilst driving. Hopefully all cars will be "driverless" soon and be driven by computers.

It is a shame you do not have trains in your country. They are so safe and comfortable. Do most people in your country rely on cars to get around?

With regards to my Arabic learning (now that Christmas is over and I am back home, not having to travel to see family and friends all the time) I am starting to learn it again. I am currently learning about people's jobs in Arabic - police officer, lawyer, doctor etc. So if you could send an audio about professions in Arabic, that would be amazing.

As promised, please see some phrasal verbs in English. (This is from a lesson I recently did with one of my students smiley from Russia. She found it useful, so I hope you do too )

1. “Back somebody up” = To support someone    / to say that someone is telling the truth („“My wife backed me up over my decision to quit my job.”„The woman made a statement, and the men backed her up.”)

2. BREAK DOWN” = when a vehicle or a machine stops working / to get VERY upset + tearful (

„On November 4, my car broke down. I had my daughter and two-year-old granddaughter with me. It was a freezing evening.
„“'I thought I was going to die': Bushfire victim breaks down in tears as she relives the terrifying moment 'trees spat fireballs' at her

3. “BREAK SOMETHING DOWN = divide into smaller parts (
„Water can be broken down into hydrogen and oxygen through electrolysis.
„The report is broken down into three sections.)

4. “TEAM UP WITH = To join together to work as a team  („Apple, Google and Amazon have announced that they will team up to develop an open-source smart home standard to make it easier for manufacturers to create new devices that work together.)

5. “Pitch in= To join in to help with a job or project („The only way we'll get the project finished in time is if everyone pitches in and helps.)

6. “Start from scratch = is to begin from the beginning, to set out on some action or process without any prior preparation, knowledge or advantage („The project folder with my outline and notes got accidentally deleted, so now I have to start the whole project again from scratch.)

)

Wow! You know so many languages already though! Good on your for wanting to learn another one. Is Turkish meant to be a hard language to learn? I have heard some people say that it is ridiculously difficult but they might be exaggerating like I often do haha!
